Origin is pleased to announce the reopening of our Community Funds Grant Program! Applications will be accepted starting March 1, 2024.
Funds from this program can be used by eligible borrowers to assist with down payment or closing costs when purchasing a primary residence. Click HERE for the 2024 program guidelines.
2024 changes to the program include:
- Only grants will be offered, no 2nd liens
- Grants will only be offered in the amount of $1,000
- Due to a smaller pool of funds this year, only 50 grants will be made before the program closes
- Borrowers will be required to complete a FREE budgeting session with one of Origin’s HUD-Certified Housing Counselors prior to closing
Other Important Program Reminders:
- Borrowers will be qualified using HUD’s 2023 Area Median Income limits until the 2024 updates are released by HUD
- All borrowers need to complete a Homebuyer Education course provided by a HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency that has adopted the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling
- Purchases for primary residences only (mobile homes are not eligible)

The Community Funds grant program is ended as of May 10, 2023 at 5 pm. Please check back later. The Downpayment and Closing Cost Assistance Community Funds Grant Program offers $1,000-$2,000 in forgivable grant money to eligible individuals and families. These grants are designed to promote and preserve homeownership and permanent housing for homebuyers in the state of South Carolina.
