FAQs

1. What is One Less Homeless Vet?

Our mission is simple: we provide start-up home supplies and furniture for low-income veterans in the Charleston Tri-County area of South Carolina.

2. Why did your organization start the project?

Over the years we’ve helped hundreds of veterans with life coaching, budgeting, rental, and utility assistance. We’ve realized a big missing piece: many of our veterans entered their new home with only the clothes on their back. They had no bedding, kitchen items, or furniture.

Origin SC’s current subsidy assistance funding is limited to rent and utilities. It is disheartening welcoming a vet into his or her new, but very empty home. So, we started One Less Homeless Vet to give our veterans the total WELCOME HOME package!

3. How does it work?

The veteran is referred to us, enters or sustains permanent housing, takes our budgeting course (to get them started on the right foot), and registers at a local retail partner store (similar to a wedding/baby/housewarming registry). Once we approve the items we pay for them with funds donated to OneLessHomelessVet.org and the items are delivered to the veteran’s new home.

4. What does the veteran receive?

Participants receive new necessities like pots and pans, towels, a microwave, mattress set, sheets, cleaning supplies, and more!

5. Are there any limitations for what a veteran can get on a registry?

We only pay for items that are household necessities. There is a maximum amount paid based on the veteran’s income.

6. What other services do you have for Veterans?

We offer a wide array of housing and financial services. We serve Veterans in all of our programs listed on our website.
